The Autistic Community Of Cornwall CIC
Cornwall’s neurally divergent residents have a new service that is run by
Autistic people
for
Autistic people.
Our members are also involved in delivering training, advocacy and consultation with various services and decision makers.
We have developed a mentorship and befriending scheme to arrange peer support for individuals who would like to talk directly
to another Autistic person.
This is often valued by people who are newly diagnosed or have recently decided to self-identify as Autistic.
Discussion from Autistic people is leading what kind of support is needed to develop coping strategies for living in a non-Autistic
world.
We have found that spending time with, and learning from, other Autistic people is more beneficial to mental health and wellbeing
than traditional therapies and medication.
